A day or two after graduation I left Ashdown, never to live there again.  Leaving Ashdown was not my goal in life; it just turned out that way.   I went to work for the KCS Railroad, and stayed there for eleven years.  There was a two year interruption for Uncle Sam’s Army.  My Army duty was sandwiched in between Korea and Vietnam, so I didn’t see any overseas time.  I was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas for the duration.  Now back to the railroad.  One of the places the KCS sent me was DeQuincy, La.  It was there, in 1959, that I met Jean Perkins, and in June of 1961 she became the love of my life, and my wife.  There is an interesting story here.  We had first met 18 years before in this same little town.  But that tale has to be told over a cup of coffee.
Jean and I have three beautiful daughters, and five grandkids (I’ll bring pictures).  We think we have had some measure of success in our children because they are all gainfully employed (both the girls and their husbands’), and all like to come home…at meal time.
About 1970 I left the railroad and wondered into sales.  I stayed in this line of work until retirement in 2002.
Today…well most of the time anyway, there is something growing in the garden.  Each morning we try to be at the Mall at 7 AM for our three mile walk.  I read, and stay near the computer, trying to solve the world’s problems.  As you can see I have more work to do.
We are looking forward to October.
