Even a few days before I graduated, I went to work for Kaiser Engineers, the company building the cement plant at Foreman. There, I met Ed Stevens and we married in 1963. I quit work there when my son (Scott) was born in 1968. He is the only living child Ed & I had. We had a daughter who was born three years later but she died a week after being born. I decided to go back to work part-time and worked at the Methodist Church in Ashdown while Scott was in elementary school. Then in 1976 I went to work at the paper mill at Ashdown and worked there 22 years, retiring in 2000. In 1990, Ed was killed in a farming accident. I stayed in Richmond for a couple of years and then moved to Texarkana. While there, I met my second husband. We moved back to 'the farm' but divorced in 2004. I then decided my house was too big, my yard was too big, and so had another house built in Richmond, closer to my church and neighbors. This is where I live today. I have a good 'friend' at Foreman and we enjoy each other's company but also our time alone. I work, again, part-time at the Methodist Church in Ashdown. I, like so many of you, have indeed had many blessings but also my share of sorrows. I have two wonderful teen-aged grandchildren and a wonderful daughter-in-law. They live in Texarkana, and I share a close relationship with them, especially my son. I am much involved in my church, love working in my yard, reading, etc. Through Mr. Beck, our former teacher, I was elected to the REA (Rural Electric) Board in 1998, and this has given me much pleasure. I have 'settled' into this phase of my life contentedIy. I so look forward to seeing all of you - my school friends - in October.
